Greenbutts Biodegradable Cigarette Filters Receive Delegate Support In Maryland

On February 5, 2014 in Maryland, the Democratic Candidate for Attorney General, Jon Cardin, defended his proposed legislation to ban the sale of cigarettes with non-biodegradable filters. On the other side of the country, California Assemblyman, Mark Stone, recently presented a similar proposal to ban the sale of filtered cigarettes altogether. What will the tobacco industry do to address these pending legislative mandates? Are biodegradable filters a feasible alternative to implement as early as January 2015?

Standard acetate filters found in nearly all ready-made cigarette brands can take up to 15 years to biodegrade, while companies such as Greenbutts LLC have produced filters manufactured from natural materials that biodegrade within days. Greenbutts is fast becoming known as the alternative biodegradable cigarette filter producer in the world. The company has spent years sourcing and testing the optimal blend of non-synthetic materials that allow for comparable filtration and quality levels as with standard acetate filters. The solution was developed to run on existing machinery for seamless integration with current cigarette manufacturing practices. Prior to any talk of government-mandated cigarette filters regulations, Greenbutts has been in discussions with the leading corporations in the tobacco industry who are proactively addressing the litter issue from all angles – including their own environmental initiatives. While attempts have been made to change consumer behavior, such as the implementation of anti-littering laws, it remains that 65% of cigarette butts are littered. Greenbutts presents a net-positive solution that drastically reduces the environmental and economic impact of cigarette litter. According to Keep America Beautiful (KAB.org), cigarette-butt litter as the most frequently littered item. It is seen as “unsightly, costly to clean up, and harmful to aquatic ecosystems and wildlife” by organizations such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Jon Cardin supports companies like Greenbutts and the shift the industry is making towards a green alternative. “It is good to see states such as Maryland and California taking initiatives to address a significant environmental and economic concern. We are well positioned to assist the tobacco industry shift to biodegradable filters, whether or not a legislative mandate occurs,” – Founder of Greenbutts LLC

Acoustifence Installed at Coca-Cola Plant Cuts Industrial Noise Pollution Almost in Half at Neighboring Residences

Coca-Cola has completed installation ofAcoustifence® noise barrier fencing along the west perimeter of its Bay City plant, bringing to an abrupt halt those noise issues that had been plaguing neighbors in the surrounding community and attracting local news organizations as the outcry from area residents grew.

Architect Jack Zelazny of Dearborn, Michigan, acting as a consultant to Coca Cola’s contractor Kirco Manix, chose Acoustifence noise barrier fencing for the core of the 300 foot wide noise barrier project designed to alleviate noise from idling delivery trucks at the plant that had been plaguing neighbors in the South End Community.

Zelazny said the initial plan was to construct a 30 foot acoustical metal fence along the perimeter roadway to address the problem, but he nixed the idea in favor of something significantly less expensive and more aesthetically pleasing to the community’s residents.

“I didn’t think it was appropriate for the neighbors to have to stare at a 30 foot industrial metal fence from their small residential yards,” Zelazny said. “I really wanted to find something more organic and natural.”

After researching sound barrier fencing options, he found Acoustifence, a product of Acoustiblok, Inc. in Tampa Florida, and discussed his options with acoustical consultant Paul Getts of Acoustiblok. After conferring with Getts, Zelazny moved ahead with construction of a grass covered, 300 foot wide berm that incorporated a nine foot high Acoustifence barrier and landscaping for an attractive roadside aesthetic. The project was completed in the final weeks of December, and both company officials and neighbors rang in the New Year with their new found peace and quiet.

“The Acoustifence went up flawlessly, and it’s not unpleasant to look at,” Zelazny said. “When we covered it with the dark green acoustical fabric covering it looked natural and organic, as we had hoped.

“But the real surprise was the immediate impact it had on the noise.”

Zelazny said the plant noise measured at 89 decibels before installation of the Acoustifence began, and registered at 68 decibels immediately after the Acoustifence went up. His hope was to lower the noise by 20 decibels, a figure that was exceeded at the plant, and more than doubled at the neighboring residence as soon as the Acoustifence was put in place. A reading taken at the adjacent residential property registered in the low to mid 40 decibel range.

“It exceeded my expectations, I think it exceeded everyone’s expectations,” he said.“The people at Coca Cola are happy with it, and most importantly the neighbors in the surrounding community are happy with it.

“I couldn’t speak more highly of it.”

Lahnie Johnson, president and founder of Acoustiblok, Inc., said that the application of Acoustifence in the bottling plant’s noise barrier berm was the soft drink company’s best alternative for significantly reducing noise, and respecting the surrounding community’s call for peace and quiet.

“I think Coca Cola acted quickly and responded to the area’s residents as a good corporate neighbor should,” Johnson said. “It’s particularly important that they sought out a serious noise blocking option while respecting the fact that neighboring residents would be living with whatever solution they chose, and viewing it every day – some from their own back yards.”

Acoustifence was designed to address outdoor noise pollution in residential communities, or any community that cares about its appearance.”

ABOUT ACOUSTIFENCE:
Originally developed as a noise barrier on loud offshore oil rigs, Acoustifence is a simple and economical first-step noise abatement solution for both residential and commercial usage.

A 1/8-inch (3mm) thick unique sound deadening material measuring 6 feet (1.82 meters) high by 30 feet (9.14 meters) long with black anodized brass eyelets along the top and bottom edge for easy attachment to any existing fence or structure. Heavy-duty nylon ties are included with each roll. Easily installed or removed in less than one hour, impervious to mold, mildew, and UV, Acoustifence is virtually indestructible. The soundproofing material in Acoustifence is a proprietary formula of the Acoustiblok Corporation, developed and refined over a 10-year period.

Scaling Caused by Hard Water Can Be Prevented Without Using Environment Damaging Chemicals Or Water Softeners – As This Dairy Case History Shows

The presence of calcium carbonate in water gives rise to the formation of a deposit of hard scale on surfaces particularly when water is heated. In dairies this is a severe problem where it forms on stainless steel and is required to be removed by using chemicals. These chemicals then have to be thoroughly rinsed off before equipment is reused to avoid contaminating the milk. Of course all the chemicals being rinsed off go into the drains and then into streams and rivers. But there is also another problem caused by the scale. In addition to being difficult to remove and reducing the efficiency of the plant presence of calcium provides a surface upon which protein matter can deposit and bacteria can then breed. This deposition is called milk stone.

Stainless steel is used for good reason in dairies because it is not prone to corrosion and has a very smooth surface… But Scale destroys all this and leads to the requirement to spend hours chemical cleaning and scouring.

Lalu Farms of Sparta Tennessee found a solution to this problem, one that was totally environment friendly and that saved hours on manpower, eliminated chemicals and reduced the risk of bacterial contamination.

By installing a Scaletron catalytic water conditioner manufactured by Fluid Dynamics International they were able to neutralise the calcium carbonate in the water so that it did not form a hard scale and did not stick to the pipework or other stainless steel surfaces. The end result as the owners of the dairy say in their report is that they “saved huge amounts of chemicals and tons of man hours and considerable amounts of money”. Milk stone has been totally eliminated since the installation of the Scaletron Catalytic conditioner that treats all the water coming from a well with 400ppm of hardness.

The Scaletron works by imparting a small electrical charge into the water and this affects the calcium carbonate in such a way that it does not form a hard scale. The technology developed by Fluid Dynamics is used worldwide in the food industry, engineering, motor manufacturing and buildings. Clients range from Unilever to Honda and from the City Mall in Jordan to the Kempinski Hotel in Dubai and include Cambridge University in England. Simply installed in the pipework the product requires no maintenance and has no moving parts. Over 250,000 are installed worldwide.

U.S. Soybean Farmers Help Support World Food Supply

United Soybean Board Highlights Soy Biotechnology as Way to Address Global Food Demand.

As the global population continues to increase, the United Soybean Board highlights soy biotechnology on its new Web pages. The information demonstrates how biotechnology utilized by U.S. soybean farmers remains as a safe and efficient way to improve crop yields and productivity in the United States and across the globe, and contribute positively to the world food supply.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, global food demand is increasing, with nearly 1 billion people all around the world waking up hungry and going to bed the same way. The U.N. predicts that, 50 years from now, our growing population could require us to produce twice as much food as we do today to provide for even basic food needs.

Many U.S. farmers, however, use biotechnology advances to address growing human population and world hunger by producing food that is both healthy and more abundant. By emphasizing sustainable production, farmers continue to meet the urgent needs of today and the growing demands of tomorrow.

For additional information about how agriculture benefits the world, and soybeans’ role in the global food supply, visit the United Soybean Board’s expanded consumer Web pages here. Additional conversation about soybeans and sustainability can be found on the blog www.usbthinkingahead.com.

The Shocking Truth About Traditional Flea Treatments

Products intended to treat cats and dogs for fleas and ticks kill hundreds of pets each year and injure tens of thousands, said the Environmental Protection Agency in a March 2010 statement. In a now famous ABC News report released in 2008, traditional spot drop flea and tick medicines were found to cause more than 44,000 severe reactions, including seizures and 1,200 deaths.

There is no such thing as chemical flea “prevention” on an animal. Fleas are killed when they bite pets for a blood meal. They die from the toxins systemically wicked into and carried in the animal’s bloodstream.

Due to widespread controversy over traditional flea and tick control methods, cedar oil insecticides have gained increasing popularity and respect in the veterinary and organic farming communities. In 2006, at the request of the U.S. Army, a team of world renowned organic scientists expanded upon traditional cedar oil formulations by introducing a quartz rock carrier to deliver a lethal dose of substance at the microscopic level. This nano-sized delivery system closes the breathing pores of pheromone driven insects on contact and creates a lasting barrier that discourages new insects from latching onto treated animals.

At the forefront of the cedar oil movement is a company based in the heart of Texas and marketed at Bugshateit.com. Their product is endorsed by Animal Wellness Magazine and recognized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as the number one biological insect control formula, proven superior to chemical counterparts. The formula is strong enough to battle crop pests on commercial farms yet safe enough to treat neighborhood yards for mosquitoes and venomous snakes. Last year alone, one of the most prominent pest control companies in the United States ordered 5,000 gallons of the product.

Soybean Farmers’ Focus on Sustainable Agricultural Methods Featured on New Web Pages

Practices That Save Soil, Ensure Clean Water and Conserve Energy Represent Modern Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security.

Without fertile land, clean water and ample natural resources, farmers and ranchers cannot do their jobs of producing sustainable foods to feed our growing world. As the United Soybean Board points out on the group’s new Web pages, today’s agriculturalists embrace these modern production methods and technologies like never before to help contribute to sustainable agriculture and food security for our growing planet.

Conservation tillage serves as an integral part of critical sustainable agricultural methods important to our food security, as it serves as a way of growing crops from year to year without disturbing topsoil. By minimizing tillage, farmers can decrease erosion and increase the amount of water and carbon that stays trapped in the soil and available to their crops. This means less carbon in the air and a reduced need to tap into water supplies. It also helps stop soil and other runoff and conserves energy by requiring fewer trips across fields.

Online tracking programs, such as virtual calculators, offer another key tool for ensuring sustainability in the food industry. These tools optimize farmers’ efficiency by allowing them to see almost immediately how their choices impact natural resources, production levels and ultimately the sustainability performance of their farms.

For additional information about soy biotechnology’s role in sustainable foods, visit the United Soybean Board’s consumer Web pages here. Additional conversation about soybeans and sustainability can be found on the blog www.usbthinkingahead.com.

RDZ Industrial Heating – High Comfort and Energy-saving

The choice as to the type of heating to use in industrial premises is essentially based on financial and comfort considerations. Reductions in energy consumption are an essential element when it comes to considering an effective heating system, both in terms of the saving involved, as well as from the environmental point of view.

RDZ Industrial Heating - High Comfort and Energy-saving

Another factor of key importance in any heating system for industrial premises is the required level of comfort which enables users to work in a pleasant, healthy environment without currents of air or dust. Comfort and energy saving are the two main factors when choosing RDZ industrial underfloor heating system.

Underfloor heating systems are especially suitable for industrial premises with particularly high ceilings, since heat diffusion due to radiation allows rooms to be heated to human height. Apart from maximum comfort, however, industrial premises show excellent results in terms of energy consumption with savings of up to 50% compared to a standard air heating system. Indeed, uniform temperature distribution not only guarantees the sensation of physical wellbeing but also allows the system to be operated at low temperatures, thus significantly reducing energy consumption compared to traditional systems.

US Firm Experiences Spike In Demand For Green Building Materials

Florida-based home improvement quote website Local Quoter America has announced a spike in the level of demand for environmentally friendly building materials since the start of 2010.

The company, which has its head office in Miami, said more and more households are looking to use ‘green’ building materials such as vinyl siding in their home improvement projects, in an effort to minimize the effect of their properties on the environment.

One of the strongest themes to come out of last month’s 2010 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, was the increasing desire to build sustainable homes in America. The proof that more emphasis is being placed on eco-friendly products such as siding, can be found by looking at recent trends witnessed by Local Quoter.

Les Yates is head of the online price comparison website www.localquoter.net/us which searches for home improvement quotes from a database containing thousands of building companies across America.

He said: “So far during 2010, over 50 per cent of all the enquiries we have received through the website have been related to siding quotes. I think it really shows how important the use of environmentally friendly materials is to homeowners, as well as a strong indication of the way the building industry is going.”

Siding has always been a popular product in America as an exterior cladding for houses, but increasing knowledge about climate change issues and the importance of using sustainable building materials has boosted awareness considerably. Like other sustainable products, the vinyl siding manufacturing process is very efficient, with little waste produced. The product is also virtually maintenance free and only needs periodic cleaning with soap and water much like the materials used in the frames for replacement windows.

Calli Schmidt, director of environmental communications at the Washington-based National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), backed up the recent trend seen by Local Quoter America. She said the organisation is also expecting to see increased demand for green materials, although “it is not a landslide yet”, with the state of the credit market holding back building projects whether they have green credentials or not.

Backed By 6,000 Studies And 50 Years Of Use, Atrazine Can Be Used Safely

For 50 years, sound science has governed U.S. regulatory decisions on atrazine, a well-studied herbicide that farmers rely upon worldwide to produce safe, healthy and abundant crops. Syngenta, as a science-based company, looks forward to a continuing, open and transparent safety review of atrazine by the U.S. EPA in 2010 and expects a positive outcome.

Last week, two environmental activist groups escalated their attacks on Syngenta and atrazine, urging a departure from the EPA’s methodical, science-based approach to regulating crop protection products such as atrazine. Syngenta believes these claims are baseless and wrong.

These activist groups urge the removal of safe, regulated crop protection tools farmers rely on to produce safe and abundant food for the world. It is estimated forty percent of the world’s food supply would not exist without the use of such products.

Committed to the highest ethical standards
“Syngenta is committed to promoting and maintaining high standards of corporate responsibility worldwide in an industry that is essential to global agriculture and food production,” said Dr. Tim Pastoor, principal scientist for Syngenta Crop Protection. “The activist report is an irresponsible and defamatory characterization of our company’s efforts to implement high standards of stewardship for the safe, effective and environmentally responsible use of its products. Our people are committed to the highest level of ethical standards in all our business practices.”

Transparent review of the best science
EPA’s 12-year evaluation completed in 2006 found atrazine poses “no harm that would result to the general U.S. population, infants, children or other … consumers.”

To reach its conclusion, EPA required that Syngenta initiate studies defined by the EPA and conducted using internationally recognized Good Laboratory Practices.

“Syngenta is required by the EPA to conduct a long list of mandatory high-quality studies under rigorous scrutiny by the agency,” said Pastoor. “Every data point is available to verify the studies were done properly and the science can be verified by EPA scientists. Recently cited studies by activist organizations are not required to adhere to the same standards. The EPA’s recent evaluation reviewed the best science in its regulatory decision, so these activist calls for yet another review of atrazine would only be repeating the work that has been done already.”

World-renowned institutions including the World Health Organization, the National Cancer Institute, and governments in Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom all have studied atrazine. WHO said atrazine is deemed “not classifiable as to carcinogenicity to humans,” placing it in the same cancer risk category as substances such as tea, rubbing alcohol and talc. The Australian government said“it is unlikely that atrazine is an endocrine disruptor in humans.”

In addition, Anne Lindsay, former Deputy Director, Office of Pesticide Programs, U.S. EPA, in testimony before the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee of the Minnesota House of Representatives, said “EPA has taken an especially close look at the research conducted by Dr. Tyrone Hayes which reports that atrazine adversely affects sexual development in frogs, causing a mixture of sex organs in a single animal. EPA has concluded that the existing data are insufficient to demonstrate that atrazine causes such effects. The Agency’s conclusions are supported by the independent, expert peer review of the SAP (Science Advisory Panel).”

Thousands of farmers rely on atrazine for more than half of U.S. corn
“Farmers have told us again and again to fight for atrazine, which is an important tool in growing affordable and abundant food, and we will,” Pastoor said. “Atrazine is relied on to control weeds on more than half of U.S. corn, and a 2003 EPA review said ‘the total or national economic impact resulting from the loss of atrazine to control grass and broadleaf weeds in corn, sorghum and sugar cane would be in excess of $2 billion per year if atrazine were unavailable to growers.’ That would have a devastating effect on our farm economy.”

Scrappage Scheme For Windows Earns Wide Industry Backing

Boiler replacement grant scheme up and running – campaigners hope plan to encourage installation of latest, energy-efficient double glazing will be next.

Scrappage Scheme For Windows Earns Wide Industry Backing

More than 3,450 people have signed a petition calling on the government to introduce a double glazing scrappage scheme, just as the first applications are coming in from householders looking to take advantage of a similar incentive to improve the energy efficiency of UK homes.

The government’s boiler scrappage scheme was launched in early January, promising to save up to 125,000 eligible households £400 on the cost of replacing an old boiler with a more modern, fuel-efficient equivalent.

Now, support is growing for a similar scheme for double glazed windows, with a petition on the 10 Downing Street website attracting 3,450 signatures, as at Monday January 11.

And home improvement price comparison website LocalQuoter has backed this idea, believing that it will encourage window installers and manufacturers to step up to the challenge of addressing the environmental impacts of their work.

“We fully support any scheme which will help people reduce their CO2 emissions,” said LocalQuoter boss Les Yates, “and we’re sure our customers will too.

“We’ve already shown them the benefits of using local, suitably qualified and experienced tradespeople, and we welcome any moves to encourage our trusted industry partners to show a commitment to cutting the environmental impact of their work.

“Having state-of-the-art windows and doors installed is proven to help achieve substantial reductions in CO2, and can play a major part in helping the UK achieve the drastic emissions cuts which we are looking to achieve over the next decade,” he added.

The government has committed to cutting the amount of greenhouse gases, of which CO2, or carbon dioxide is the most common, by 70 per cent in the UK by the year 2020.

Installing modern windows can help maximise savings on energy bills over many years, according to Nigel Rees, Chief Executive of the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), the umbrella body representing double glazing manufacturers and installers.

“Energy Efficient Windows (EEWs) have a huge role to play in improving the thermal performance of the existing housing stock,”, said Nigel Rees. “EEWs can reduce emissions by 10% from dwellings nationally and reduce national domestic energy expenditure by 10%. “

Sani SAC™, a sanitary, sealable, degradable plastic bag, is the company’s environmentally friendly solution for the disposal of tampons/napkins, diapers and other similar items in public restrooms. GGI has created a 50-bag box, a 125-bag roll and a 5-bag handi-pack. The degradable bags break down in landfills within 12 to 18 months. By using them, companies keep the disposed items from winding up in sewers, and leading to waterways and oceans when sewers overflow.

Jackie Transue, President of GGI, said she had the idea for founding GGI in 2007 while traveling on business as the president of her own mortgage company. She said practically every restroom in several states had a sign in the women’s room requesting disposal of sanitary items in wastebaskets instead of toilets.

“The light bulb went off and I thought that there must be a better solution than wasting so much toilet paper for wrapping tampons or napkins,” Ms. Transue said.“Also, sometimes women are embarrassed to place items in a wastebasket– that’s why they are tempted to flush them.”

While some bathrooms contain disposal areas for sanitary napkins/tampons, typically they are lined by a waxed paper bag, which does not address the waste of wrapping the items in toilet paper. The waxed bags are intrinsically less environmentally responsible than the Sani SAC™. According to Golden Group studies, the average menstruating female uses one extra roll of toilet paper during menstruation for the purpose of feminine hygiene disposal alone. During her lifetime, she would use an additional 450 rolls of toilet paper for this purpose. That translates to 9.5 trees per woman. Based on that, the 125 million current menstruating females would account for 380 million trees cut down for toilet paper used for this disposal over 35-40 years, the average menstrual lifetime.

One of the areas where the Sani SAC™ could make a major impact is in reducing the amount of tampon applicators that end up in the ocean, Ms. Transue said. She notes that the Ocean Conservancy’s 2009 report, “A Rising Tide of Ocean Debris,” cites medical/personal hygiene items, such as tampons and tampon applicators, disposable diapers and syringes, as one of the greatest categories of debris, entering the oceans through sewer systems. The United States is one of the worst offenders in this area, with tampon applicators and medical debris comprising 5% of its ocean pollution, compared to a worldwide average of 1%.

Sani SAC™ bags are made from polyethylene and an additive, which utilizes a unique ion prodegradant system that will cause a high level of controlled degradation in the finished product after a period of light exposure. The bags ultimately degrade into CO2, H2O and biomass, whether they wind up in a landfill or other avenue of the waste stream. The non-toxic bags are harmless to humans, animals or plant life.

Kevin Hanna, co-founder and Vice President of GGI, said the company’s product is an example of a “smart” green effort because it promotes sustainability, while also breaking down harmlessly.

Transue notes that Sani SAC™ is superior to paper not only in terms of green aspects, but also because it is stronger, more sanitary and more private.

“It is double-layered, so it is opaque and is very sturdy,” Ms. Transue said. “A waxed bag can tear easily and does not seal. If you need to carry the Sani SAC™ bag in your purse or luggage, it is very compact, as it is available in a convenient 5-bag pack. If you need to use the Sani SAC™ bag and don’t find there is a place to dispose of it, you can put it in your purse to throw away later.”

Currently in use by many institutional and governmental janitorial services, Sani SAC™ reduces plumbing repair costs in these facilities caused by clogged pipes, according to Mr. Hanna. Plumbing costs range from $70 to $135 per hour in the United States, and could run higher in an emergency situation on a weekend or holiday.

“The reduction of plumbing expenses to relieve clogged toilets and pipes, the reduction of paper waste, the avoidance of clean-up and the priceless value of not losing the use of the restroom in a busy restaurant or a rentable hotel room make this a cost-effective product for the hospitality industry, among others,” Mr. Hanna said.

The products have the added benefit of protecting janitorial staff from exposure to disposed items that potentially could carry dangerous viruses or bacteria. These items include sanitary napkins, tampons, condoms, adhesive bandages, wipes and diapers.

The reactions by women who have used Sani SAC™ have been overwhelmingly positive.

“They appreciate the convenience, hygiene and opportunity to be discreet,” Ms. Transue said. “Up until the introduction of this product and our effort to bring awareness to the issues, many women did not understand the environmental impact of flushing these items. It was ‘out of sight, out of mind’ for many people, but once we explain the environmental and plumbing impact, they are eager to do their part.”

“This creates good will and overall customer satisfaction for businesses,” Mr. Hanna said. “The environmental benefit, too, will help save in clean-up costs and in the damage to our waterways and to marine life. By keeping costs down with products such as Sani SAC™, hotels can pass along the savings in the form of lower rates to their customers.”

The company’s goal is no less than to become a household name in green disposal. “I expect that the Sani SAC™ will be in most eco-friendly hotels, offices, restaurants and public spaces within the next year as they become aware of it,” Ms. Transue said. “We hope to reach every household soon after.”

Golden Group International, Ltd. (GGI) is a leading provider of quality sanitary and environmentally safe disposal bags, catering to institutional, sports arena, restaurant and hotel industries. Founded in 2008, GGI has earned certifications from the Green Business Association and the “Green” Hotels Association® for its degradable products. Environmentally-Friendly Way To Get Rid Of Your Rat Problem

A COMPANY has developed an environmentally-friendly way of helping get rid of your Rat Problem – by tempting them out of hiding like the legendary Pied Piper and Relocating their Nests by using Foods they love to eat.

Environmentally-Friendly Way To Get Rid Of Your Rat Problem

But instead of luring the rats with music, W.H.I.C – E.R.A.S.E.TM eliminates the rodent problem by enticing them with their favourite foods.

The firm is confident its modern-day Pied Piper effect will help businesses, workplaces and other organizations eradicate their rat problem using a natural method, which is safe for both children and pets.

The company’s special food pellet formula includes a mixture of foods that rats love, including peanuts and soybeans.

Food Formulator Ernest Adam Csolkovits, who is CEO of Michigan-based W.H.I.C, said: “Rodents like the same foods as humans.

“This rodenticide works by using the same ‘following effect’ as the Pied Piper to help get rid of rodents. Instead of music, we use their favorite foods (the same food humans eat) in a small pellet form.

“This is the perfect green solution to E.R.A.S.E. your rodent problem.”

W.H.I.C – E.R.A.S.E.TM (Eliminate Rodents And Save Everyone) uses a non-toxic food pellet formula, which is safe for both youngsters and pets.

Latest figures show that more than 1.1million children aged five and under are exposed to poisons every year in the US and Canada, while there are also more than 400,000 cases of pet poisoning annually.

But Mr Csolkovits, who developed the product, added: “This product is safe for humans and pets. Why would anyone want to use something that could be harmful and even fatal to your loved ones?

“W.H.I.C – E.R.A.S.E.TM was invented to eliminate the fear of deadly poisons in homes, workplaces, schools and anywhere you and your loved ones would visit. Let W.H.I.C – E.R.A.S.E.TM give you the peace of mind you deserve, knowing that your family is safe.”
Rats have a keen sense of smell and can easily sniff out poison. They usually urinate on the poison as a warning to other rats.

But studies have shown that they favour certain foods and will be attracted by the smell and taste of the ingredients in W.H.I.C – E.R.A.S.E.TM Also, the rats will not consider it a poison because the ingredients can be eaten by humans and can be found in Food.
The new product is currently available in Alaska and Wyoming but the ambitious company is planning to serve other areas.

Earthworm Family-Safe Products Achieve National Distribution

With the addition of a major supermarket chain, Earthworm family-safe drain cleaner from Clean Earth Brands, a division of Positive Attitude,is now available to consumers across the country.

“A couple of years ago, we started with nothing more than an idea and a dream,” said Ricky Greer, president of Clean Earth Brands. “Today our products are found on the shelves of several national retail chains, and have been featured on NBC’s The Today Show and recommended in National Geographic’s Green Guide. And that’s a testament to all those who understand that it’s time we start taking responsibility for Mother Earth and treat her right.”

Earthworm uses the natural cleaning power of enzymes rather than caustic chemicals that are harmful to the environment and dangerous to our families. “Knowing that what goes down the drain eventually ends up in a water or soil system nearby, developing a natural drain cleaner was an effective way to make a positive impact on keeping the environment clean,” said Greer. “It’s a new and unique addition to the green market, and it provides consumers with a safe and effective way to keep drains flowing freely.”

Enzymes are the key to the Earthworm formula. All living things contain enzymes. They’re proteins that convert organic material into harmless nutrients and water. The human body uses about 75,000 of these microscopic workhorses to help perform essential tasks such as breathing and digesting food. Think of them as nature’s recyclers.

Earthworm is biodegradable and free of caustic chemicals, solvents and phosphates, so it’s safe to use around children and pets. It’s ideal for all household drains, ie: shower, tub, bathroom and kitchen sinks, garbage disposals. Also good for boat / RV holding tanks, as well as for septic systems.

“Retailers are happy to have an environmentally friendly product to offer their consumers,” said Greer. “Both large and small outlets are eager to sell Earthworm. Consumers appreciate Earthworm’s performance and often take the time to send e-mails or make a phone call telling me how good they feel about using our products, not just because they don’t contain harsh chemical ingredients, but because they work.”

In addition to the Family-Safe Drain Cleaner, Clean Earth Brands has also recently developed a line of products to tackle a host of household cleaning tasks, including, bathroom tubs and tiles, floors, carpets and upholstery, mold and mildew and household odors, all using the power of natural enzymes. A septic system treatment rounds out the company’s offerings.
